Brief History of Fake News

Chronology of Manipulating Public Perception

truth is a subjective term

By Rick Gordon - Enigmose Political

In 1835 the NY Sun published a 6 part series detailing the discovery of life on the moon. In 1850 a number of newspapers in the United States reported on a plot hatched by Southerners to leave the Union and confederate with Mexico, it turned out to be 100% false. In 1862 news reports initiating in a Nevada newspaper reported the discovery of a petrified human being - the story turned out to be a work of fiction written by a struggling young writer named Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain. In 1874, the New York World announced the discovery of man-eating trees.

Such was the journalism of the 19th Century, it had an agenda to sell newspapers and produce a profit. '[It is]... tendency of the penny press to enliven its pages by adulterating the news with pranks and fancy designed to sucker gullible readers [1] was how one writer described the 19th Century News media.

As Journalism evolved into the 20th Century the tactics became a tad more sophisticated, although still 'designed to sucker gullible readers'. By the Post WWII era and the advent of broadcast journalism the News media rose to an unparalleled level of sophistication 'designed to sucker gullible readers'.

By the 1970s most main stream journalism was controlled by corporate entities, largely uninvolved in the actual content so long as it produced revenue. Content was surrendered to quasi-intellectuals who were largely the product of academic indoctrination. News Media now had a dual agenda ... 1. Produce growth and revenue for the folks who signed the paychecks 2. Promote a left wing progressive agenda while maintaining a facade of journalistic ethics all the while still 'designed to sucker gullible readers'.

Fake News has been a fact of life for decades. In 1932 Walter Duranty of the NY Times received a Pulitzer Prize for a series of reports about the Soviet Union published in June 1931. He was criticized then and later for his denial of widespread famine (1932) in the USSR, most particularly the mass starvation in Ukraine. Years later, there were calls to revoke his Pulitzer; The New York Times, which submitted his work for the prize in 1932, wrote that his articles constituted 'some of the worst reporting to appear in this newspaper.' [2]

Fake News of the Vietnam Era

Skipping across a few decades to the Cold War and the Vietnam era fake news was skillfully mastered by the mainstream media pundits. Pseudo Journalists of the libtarded left bombarded American Households with distorted and laughably fake news masquerading as Journalism.

Once example was 'How CBS News Aided the JFK Cover-up' [3] in the 1960s. Another such example was the Wall Within Vietnam Era Propaganda, a 1988 CBS Special.

The show featured Vietnam Vets describing horrific tales of atrocities allegedly committed by themselves and other American military personnel in Vietnam. Left wing critics applauded it, the Washington Post called it extraordinarily powerful.

Years later B. G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley, in their book Stolen Valor : How the Vietnam Generation Was Robbed of Its Heroes and Its HistoryHardcover September 1, 1998 obtained the service records of the so-called war vets, documenting where each was stationed throughout the Vietnam War.

Only one of the men actually served in Vietnam; he claimed he was a Navy SEAL, but the records contradicted his claims and listed him as an equipment repairman , the other 5 never even set foot on Vietnamese soil. The show was another in a long list of Dan Rather / CBS fabrications.

Other CBS fake news of the past includes a 1982 series for which they were sued by General Westmoreland, commander of US Forces in Vietnam. They were forced to issue a half baked apology which barely got a fraction of the airtime their propaganda had. CBS lost its libel insurance and other Insurers refused to issue Libel insurance, as their reporting was [is] so blatantly false and irresponsible.

In 1972 - the CBS Evening News aired nearly 1,400 presentations supporting the dovish view [Vietnam War]. Contrary or hawkish positions were aired only 79 times. [4]

Vietnam and the Media

Media Distortion in AIDS Epidemic Coverage

1980s - The AIDS epidemic or pandemic as some like to label it was a devastating blow to the Gay community and intravenous drug users that found less than desirable sympathy from the population as a whole. AIDS which was [is] largely a disease of homosexuals and intravenous drug users that on rare occasions works its way into the middle class heterosexual community. Massive public funding to combat it was needed. In order to fester up larger public support from the heterosexual middle class the mainstream media published a number of blatantly false stories which skewered statistics and ignored factual data to portray AIDS / HIV as more than it was.

Newsweek 1983: "AIDS is creeping out of its well-defined, epidemiological confines..."

Life, July 1985 : "Now No One Is Safe From AIDS."

Time 1985: "the threat to heterosexuals appears to be growing."

Time 1987: "The proportion of heterosexual cases . . . is increasing at a worrisome rate'

Time 1987: 'The numbers as yet are small, but AIDS is a growing threat to the heterosexual population.'

Oprah Winfrey 1987: '1 in 5 heterosexuals could be dead from AIDS at the end of the next three years. That's by 1990. One in five. It is no longer just a gay disease. Believe me.'

U.S. News & World Report 1987: 'The disease of them is suddenly the disease of us. The slow death presumed just a few years ago to be confined to homosexuals, Haitians, and hemophiliacs is now a plague of the mainstream, finding fertile growth among heterosexuals.'

U.S. News & World Report, April 1987: 'Now, however, the disease is spreading so rapidly beyond homosexuals and drug abusers that the old rules no longer apply.'

U.S. News & World Report, June 1 1987: 'With an approximate seven-to-ten year latency period before the symptoms become evident, compelling evidence of a breakout of AIDS may come too late. That is a breakout into what the government calls the general population. That is you, Mr. President. That is heterosexuals. Put most simply: AIDS is a fatal disease-always-and everyone is at risk.'

November 1987. AIDS, we have been told, is not just a 'gay disease,' or a disease of intravenous (IV) drug abusers passing contaminated needles. It can break out into the general heterosexual population at any time, and when it does it will become (in the words of one concerned clergyman) 'a national disaster as great as a thermonuclear war' Commentary Magazine, [11]

As per Bernard Goldberg journalists misled the American people for a 'good cause.' People with AIDS had to be depicted as members of main stream society heterosexual, middle class America to invoke public sympathy, truth be damned the false narrative was invoked and disseminated [10]

Chronology / Timeline of Recent Major Media Bias

2003 CBS Anchor Dan Rather Distorted Poll findings when he stated 'The President calls the tax cut necessary. Democrats call it a campaign for the wealthy. ... In a CBS News/New York Times poll out tonight, less than half the respondents thought the Bush tax cut would actually help the economy. The poll he cited actually showed said that twice as many said tax cuts would help the economy (41 percent) than said new tax cuts would hurt (19 percent).

2004 CBS George W. Bush National Guard service. Dan Rather - Nuff said ?

2009 ABC News Lied, no they did not err, they blatantly lied about the number of protestors present for a September 12 Tea Party march on Washington DC. Clear pictures of the massive crowds from the tops of buildings were easily cross-referenced with the National Park Service schematic for estimating the turnout at President Obamas inauguration in January earlier that year. The tea party turnout was undeniably one million or even better. Meanwhile in 1995, the National Park Service estimated that roughly 400,000 people attended the 'Million Man March' in Washington, D.C using the same schematic while many of left wing pundits claimed it was at least a million.

2012 A Photoshopped Receipt With a One Percent Tip From a Banker Made Headlines In 2012, with the Occupy Wall Street movement in full force and rage against the One Percent angrily fomenting, The Huffington Post could not resist publishing what turned out to be a hoax. As per HuffPo - A wealthy bankers underling and dinner companion was so outraged by a nasty tip the boss left a server on a $133.54 ticket, that the disgruntled employee snapped a picture, showing a tip amount of $1.33 with the word 'Tip' circled and an arrow pointing to the words: 'Get a real job.' Version2013 Lara Logan Reports Fake News Story About Benghazi, Leading to Her Suspension

In 2013, CBS 60 Minutes aired an eyewitness report from a security contractor who turned out not to have been present for the events he claims to have witnessed. The story unraveled when it became evident that his reports did not match with what he told the FBI.

2013 CBS Suppressed a '60 Minutes' Interview relative to the Benghazi attacks, 'deceived the public by blaming protests against an anti-Islam video. CBS chose not to air the clip for over a month' [14]

2014 Rolling Stone in an effort to bolster the "Rape Culture" narrative being disseminated by the left published a Fabricated Story of Campus Rape 'A Rape on Campus by Sabrina Erdely' about a UVA student who was raped by a group of fraternity members at a party. Inconsistencies in the story began popping up, the entire story eventually fell apart and it was completely discredited.

2014 Michael Brown - Schow noted that 'The hands up, dont shoot' narrative was a lie, but some in the media and on the left still parrot the claim, even after forensic evidence proved it wrong. [13]

2016 A Muslim women was knocked down by a hit and run driver in Belguim, mainstream news sources immediately labeled it a hate crime perpetrated by a right winger. As the story unfolded and more facts became available it turned out that the hit and run driver was another Muslim named Mohamed. Meanwhile around the world the left wing media will go out of their way to avoid labeling acts of terrorism as Islamic terrorism until they have no choice.

MSNBC - Andrea Mitchell claims Juanita Broaddrick accusations against Bill Clinton were discredited.

2016 During one of the Presidential Debates NBCs Lester Holt Interrupted Donald Trump 41 times, either to refute, or to ask a follow-up question. Hillary basically got free reign and was interrupted only 7 Times.

2016 - CBS, NBC Manipulated Polling Data to Show Hillary with Lead Over Trump. The poll conducted excluded many Republicans and took results from a higher percentage of Democrats in order to arrive at a pre-determined result. [ MEDIA DIRTY TRICKS: CBS, NBC Manipulate Polling Data to Show Hillary with Lead Over Trump ] 2016 Presidential Election - The majority of mainstream media presented a false picture of the electoral odds in favor of Hillary Clinton. Days before the election the Huffington Post had Hillary Clinton at a 98% likehood of winning the election.

2016 The health of Hillary Clinton became an issue during the 2016 Presidential Campaign. Bill Clinton was interviewed by Charlie Rose of CBS after his wife collapsed while getting into a van at a 9/11 memorial ceremony on Sunday. Mr. Clinton stated that his wife had "frequently" fainted in the past. CBS edited it out of the evening show, but got caught red handed when the morning show mistakenly used an unedited version.

2016 - NBC Buries Own Reporter To Hide Obama Lie [NBC Buries Own Reporter To Hide Obama Lie]

2016 CBS Withheld Critical Clip of Donald Trump Interview - Liberal Hillary-supporters have been rioting across America because their candidate lost an election. President Elect Donald Trump gave an extended interview to CBS News, and they refused to mention Trumps powerful message to those who are causing violence. Instead, CBS focused on Obamacare, and other ways to hurt Trump politically. CBS withheld the soundbite so they could continue to push the false narrative that riots and protests are Trumps fault. CBS Withheld Critical Clip of Donald Trump Interview

2016 The media also tried to deny that the 'birther issue' began with Hillary Clinton's 2008 campaign. But McClatchys Washington Bureau Chief James Asher said longtime Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal told him in person that Obama was born in Kenya.

Statistics Regarding Left Wing Media Bias

Unbiased Computer Confirms Media Bias Recently, as reported by Science News An algorithm was developed that proved left wing media bias using their quote choices. 'Creating a graph that grouped media outlets by their selected quotes reveals pockets that pretty accurately reflect the political leanings of the outlets. The research suggests that information about an outlets political stripes is embedded in quote choice, surrounding context aside.' [5]

In a 2008 survey it was demonstrated that journalists were 8 times likelier to make campaign contributions to Democrats than to Republicans.

A 2008 Investors Business Daily study put the campaign donation ratio at 11.5-to-1, in favor of Democrats. In terms of total dollars given, the ratio was 15-to-1. [6 ]

Tim Groseclose, a professor at the University of California at Los Angeles. conducted a study to quantify the 'slant quotient' of news stories reported by a variety of media sources and compared these ratings with a statistical analysis of the voting records. In his book, Left Turn: How Liberal Media Bias Distorts the American Mind Groseclose concluded that most media organizations aligned with the views of liberal politicians.

Americans hold the media in very low esteem, they have very little confidence in the main stream media to report ANYTHING fairly. In a 2011 Gallup poll a 60% majority reported a perception of media bias, with 47% saying that it was too liberal. Continually year after year since 2002 more Americans polled believe that the media shows brazen liberal left wing bias. [8]

The majority of America had been made to see through the facade.

The American Society of Newspaper Editors conducted a survey in 1997 to ascertain the political persuasions of media contributors, 61% of reporters stated that they were members of, or sympathized with the Democratic Party. While 15% chose the Republican Party. Bear in mind that these are 'educated' people who have been thoroughly indoctrinated by left wing academia. Presently with the rise of Fox News- which tends to slant towards the right - those numbers would probably differ somewhat.

Hollywood Oscars Award

Obama Documentary Filmmaker Quotes Communist Manifesto at Oscars: ‘Workers of the World Unite!’ - The filmmaker for a President Barack Obama-produced documentary quoted the famous rallying cries of the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and the Soviet Union during her acceptance speech. During her acceptance speech for winning Best Documentary, Julia Reichert quoted Marx’s famous “Workers of the world unite” chant.

The quote was also famously one of the official mottos of the Soviet Union before its fall. Communist regimes in the last century were responsible for the murder of more than 100 million people — including tens of millions murdered by the Soviet Union.

The documentary film American Factory tells the story of a Chinese company’s purchase and repurposing of an American factory in Ohio.

CNN not a News network

CNN Is Not a News Network - As a child, I was aware of CNN in part because its introductory bumper featured the sinister voice of Darth Vader, and in part because it was both the prototype and the stereotype of the 24-hour news channel. CNN showed up in movies, either as itself or in parodies that imitated its role. It was on in the airports and the hospitals and the hotel lobbies, and in the waiting room at the dentist’s office. When something bad or exciting was happening, you would tell your friends, “Turn on CNN.”

CNN was careful and self-consciously nonpartisan — or, at least, it was keen for viewers to believe that it was. Its slogans were “This is CNN” ... “The most trusted name in news,” and it cultivated its position within the firmament in much the same way as does Wikipedia today.

It is no longer that. These days, CNN is a peculiar and unlovely hybrid of progressive propaganda outlet, oleaginous media apologist, sexless cultural scold, and frenzied Donald Trump stalkerblog. When news breaks, it is no longer useful or appropriate to tell someone, “Turn on CNN,” because if he did, he would be as likely to be presented with a wall of advocacy and obsession as with the headlines of the hour. Today, CNN does not broadcast the news; it broadcasts what it wants you to think the news is.

Rachel Maddow - News with artificial flavors and sweeteners

Rachel Maddow

Rachel Maddow’s Reckoning - You may recall that back in March 2017, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow shocked the world by declaring “we’ve got Trump’s tax returns!” When small bits of news arose in favor of the dossier, the franchise MSNBC host pumped air into them. At least some of her many fans surely came away from her broadcasts thinking the dossier was a serious piece of investigative research ....... lol ... Her program includes bits of news and other substances that appear to be like news, but are not — fervent speculation, conjecture, assumptions, theories. If it is too harsh to call it “fake news,” then it is news with artificial flavors and sweeteners,

Maddow Meltdown: In Defense To OAN Lawsuit, Host Argues Her Words Are Not Facts - Back in September, we reported that TV network OAN had filed a lawsuit against Rachel Maddow for the time the host said that OAN “really, literally is paid Russian propaganda.”

Now, Maddow finds herself having to come up with a defense for her statement in court. And she has also apparently hired Lionel Hutz as her legal adviser.

According to Culttture, her lawyers argued in a recent motion that "…the liberal host was clearly offering up her ‘own unique expression’ of her views to capture what she saw as the ‘ridiculous’ nature of the undisputed facts. Her comment, therefore, is a quintessential statement ‘of rhetorical hyperbole, incapable of being proved true or false."

Oh, it's capable of being proved false, alright. Maddow had previously claimed, on air, about one of OAN's reporters: ...

The Left's Endless Commercial Has Weaponized Popular Culture - American consumers understand that most forms of popular culture have become nothing more than commercials for the Democrat party. Movies, television, and music focus less on entertainment than on influencing the next election. They have gone beyond mere leftist bias. Artists, writers, and musicians subordinate their craft in order to present one endless Democrat commercial.

This trend is equally egregious in the case of books. In modern bookstores, the Democrat commercial spreads far beyond the "politics" shelf. "The gardening books advocate hiring illegal aliens. The sports books reminisce about Vietnam."

A telling example of this trend appears in a 2018 book about the design of General Motors automobiles from the 1920s through the 1950s. Fins, by William Knoedelseder, appears to be credible, informative, and interesting until it reaches Chapter 9. In Chapter 9, the author apparently loses interest in classic cars and decides, instead, to tell the reader that President Trump is just like Hitler.

Nick Sandmann

CNN Settles Defamation Suit Brought By Nick Sandmann: Report - CNN settled a defamation lawsuit brought against it by Nick Sandmann, a student at Covington Catholic High School. The settlement amount wasn’t made public during the Jan. 7 court hearing in Covington, Kentucky, Fox19 reported.

The defamation suit was filed on March 12 by Sandmann’s lawyers and demanded $275 million in damages, alleging that “CNN brought down the full force of its corporate power, influence, and wealth on Nicholas by falsely attacking, vilifying, and bullying him despite the fact that he was a minor child.”
