The Korean and Vietnam Wars, those much debated hot spots in the Cold War. The free worlds attempts at containing the evil empire of Communist Imperialism, marks the starting point of the successful assault on American Exceptionalism.
Americans of the post WWII era were in a state of Euphoria over their new found prosperity and victories of WWII, Patriotism was rampant. Patriotism is a dangerous thing - from our enemies point of view. The Evil Empire feared America not only due to its unprecedented military might, but because of the incredible self pride displayed by its people - it patriotism and sense of National purpose.
A quote attributed to Stalin - 'America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within.'
And as per Nikita Krushchev, Stalins successor - 'We do not have to destroy America with missiles, America will destroy itself from within.'
Stalin was correct, Americans of his era were staunchly patriotic and united in the defense of their Liberty. So WTF happened !? Beginning around the Vietnam era, left wing socialists, communists, useful idiots and unwitting dupes infiltrated much of our media , wormed their way into academia and the political machine and began hammering away at American ideals and perspectives.
The Party of FDR and JFK was all but commandeered by useful idiots , socialists and corrupt patsies..
Patriotism was ridiculed and anything anti-american was promoted, misinformation that would promote ideologies and concepts designed to undermine our morals, values and National Pride. Denigrating our Heroes was one of the most despicable ideals instilled in the minds of our Youth of the era.
Was Krushchev right Would America will destroy itself from within ?
Todays liberals and progressives, the same vermin who spit and pissed on our Vets returning from Vietnam are the same scum that today run the leftist annals of misinformation - The Media - and hold positions of power throughout the Government and private sector.
Nowhere has the Lefts assault been more evident than in the Media. CBS untill relatively recentlly had been at forefront of the attack on American Values, patriotism and exceptionalism. One prime example is a a June 1988, hour-long special CBS Reports: The Wall Within .
The show was praised by critics, the Washington Post called it extraordinarily powerful.
One Vet Terry Bradley, told Rather he had tortured and skinned alive whole Vietnamese families, 50 men, women, and children in a single hour.
Coaxed by Dan Rather , Steve Southards, vividly described slaughtering hordes of Vietnamese civilians, and blaming the North Vietnamese. "... you went into the village, killed people, burned part of the village, then made it appear that the other side had done this?" Rather replied. Grizzly fantastic horrifying tales.
B. G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley, in their book *Stolen Valor : How the Vietnam Generation Was Robbed of Its Heroes and Its History*, claim that they had obtained the service records of all six soldiers, documenting where each was stationed throughout the Vietnam War. Only one of the men actually served in Vietnam; he claimed he was a Navy SEAL, but the records contradicted his claims and listed him as an equipment repairman , the other 5 never even set foot on Vietnamese soil. I can understand and possibly forgive One charlatan slipping through, but not 6 !!!!
As Burkett notes, the records of all of these vets were easily check-able ... Rather and his producers simply didn't bother to do. They accepted at face value the lurid tales ... Perhaps that's because this is what they wanted to believe. - Anne Morse - National Review September 2004
This was not the first time CBS had deliberately disseminated malicious falsehoods and anti- American propaganda and it certainly wasn't the last. In 1982 they had run another series for which they were sued by General Westmoreland, commander of US Forces in Vietnam. They were forced to issue a half baked apology which barely got a fraction of the airtime their propaganda had.
The Uncounted Enemy
The Uncounted Enemy narrated by Mike Wallace, charged that in 1967 General William Westmoreland had manipulated intelligence estimates in order to show far fewer communist personnel in South Vietnam than there actually were. See - Westmoreland vs. CBS
CBS was proven false [Again], CBS lost its libel Insurance as a result - small price to pay for the damage they have done over the years.
The propaganda continued, getting more sophisticated as the years went by. CNN picked up the ball from CBS when in 1998 they ran a report that the 1970 Operation Tailwind used Sarin gas to kill American defectors . The Pentagon denied the story. Skeptics proved it extremely improbable that such an atrocity went unnoticed, and CNN had no facts or viable witnesses to offer the slightest bit of credibility to the story. After a short inquiry, CNN red-faced - issued a retraction
